Natural Health Basics
More energy, better moods, stronger defenses against colds and infection, less risk of serious diseases, clearer skin and nails – a product that provides all of these benefits and more would surely be worth buying! Although many products do promise these things – and some may play a part in their delivery – you can go a long way toward great health by making a few simple changes to your daily habits.
Consider the following if you wish to lay the foundations for outstanding natural health:
Enjoy the sunshine. Your body needs Vitamin D from direct exposure of skin to the sun, and it delivers a host of health benefits. You can find more information on the sun and vitamin D by clicking here.
Eat well. This means eating food as close to its natural state as possible – fresh, organic (please click here to read our report on the recent headlines against organic foods), seasonal, local when possible, and – at least some of the time – raw. It’s also important to include healthy fats (fish, olive oil etc). Not only will the goodness of the foods bring you better health, but a side-effect of this kind of eating will be the important step of avoiding sugar and processed or ready-prepared food. Get enough sleep. Your body needs sleep to recover and your mind needs sleep to process the world. The amount of sleep individuals require varies from around 5 to 10 hours daily. What is important is that the sleep is good quality, and that there is enough of it. Please click here to read our guide to sleep.
Take your time. This means dealing with stress: learning to let go; dealing with the present as it comes without feeling stressed or worried; and developing a long-term strategy for dealing with stress and negative emotions and energy. This can include tools such as meditation or EFT.
Exercise regularly. Exercising for 30 minutes three to five times a week will keep you in good physical shape, improve your mood, boost circulation and keep your body’s defenses tuned, well as lowering your risk long-term health conditions like heart disease and osteoporosis. The exercise you do doesn’t have to be too taxing – any activity where you have some trouble holding a conversation will count towards your 30 minutes.
Drink enough water. Water makes up around 60% of your body weight. Every system within your body depends on water. Not drinking enough of it can result in long- and short-term health problems; but in rare cases, drinking too much can cause the kidneys to become overwhelmed, leading to hyponatremia. Aim for 2-3 litres a day of water, avoiding caffeinated drinks. Herbal teas make a refreshing alternative to tea and coffee, while vegetable and fruit juice is packed full of vitamins and minerals.
