Autism is a neurological disorder that affects early brain development. It retards the normal development of communication, social and reasoning skills.
As autistic children age, they may develop other brain disorders and be diagnosed as mentally retarded. About a third of people with autism develop seizures. Four times as many males are affected than females.
At The Centre For Integrated Health, our initial treatment for autistic children focuses on dietary changes and detoxification. This nutritional and cleansing approach is necessary, because autism often leads to:
1. An inability to absorb gluten and casein (dairy)
2. Low Hcl (stomach acid) and pancreatic enzymes, which diminishes absorption of vitamins and minerals with poor breakdown of foods which leads to bowel toxicity.
3. High levels of toxins from various sources. Pre-birth can may include mercury, aspartame, pesticides and medication residues. Post-birth these may be antibiotics and vaccinations.
4. High levels of Candida, Aspergillus, and parasites.
5. High levels of heavy metals including lead, aluminium, antimony and copper, which results in a weakened immune system.
We typically use energetic screening technologies to identify nutritional issues and other base problems. We then develop a custom health improvement program which can consist of diet, homeopathic remedies, and other natural treatments. Initial treatment of any autistic child will involve dietary changes and a detoxying programme. The younger the child is treated the greater the chance of success.
Young H first came to our clinic when he was 4 years old. He was unable to speak, clapped continuously, made very little eye contact and had constant diahorrea. One year later, having made radical changes to his diet and taking supplements he was able to read well and talk (although this is still limited). His bowel movements returned to normal and he was toilet trained. His clapping had also stopped. He was also been given herbs and homeopathic remedies to help him to detox. His improvement will now allow him to have an education and be independent later in life. His nutritional programmes have be heavily supported by speech therapy.
Autism is an extremely challenging and stressful ailment; for the sufferer, who cannot comprehend the limitations imposed by the condition, and of course, for family members and other support systems who often don’t know what to do to improve the situation.
We work with families and help educate them on the nutrition and detoxification remedies that can make a lasting, positive difference.
We invite you to call us to confidentially discuss your child’s condition, and explore with us the screening and treatment opportunities that are currently available to you. The earlier we can begin providing treatment, the more effective and lasting it can be.

Acidophilus is renowned to be of use for the balance of good and bad bacteria in the bowel. It can be used to return the intestinal flora back to normal, healthy levels (natural flora levels may be affected by fungus or antibiotics). Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum form part of the body’s normal micro-flora and encourage a healthy intestinal environment, promoting proper digestion and immune function and supporting the bodies natural defences against infection, inflammation and disease.
The addition of FOS (fructooligosaccharides - short chain fatty acids), which act as fuel for the growth and maintenance of beneficial gut flora, makes this formula especially useful in cases of dysbiosis due to pathogentic bacteria, fungal overgrowth or following antibiotic use. FOS have shown to be help improve calcium and magnesium absorption, balance gut Ph, improve lipid profiles and strengthen the intestinal barrier.
The B group Vitamins work synergistically as co-factors for thousands of enzymatic reactions in the body.
Best known for their crucial role in energy production and reactions of the Krebs cycle, B vitamins are also vital for the breakdown and metabolism of fats, blood sugar control and fluid balance. They are especially effective at boosting energy during times of physical and or emotional stress, when these vitamins are quickly depleted.
The health and proper functioning of the cardiovascular system relies on B vitamins as they are involved in nerve conduction, neurotransmitter synthesis and proper muscle function, including that of the heart.
Adequate B vitamins are required by the endocrine system, with B6 showing to be particularly beneficial for balancing hormones in women with symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. B vitamins also support the health of the skin hair and nails.
Nutrivital B complex contains B6 in the most easily assimilated form of pyridoxal-5-phosphate (p5p). It also includes Choline and Inositol which work in synergy with B vitamins
Today’s diet is vastly different from that of our ancestors, lacking both variety and essential nutrients due to depleted soils. Deficiencies are increasingly widespread and one of the most common of these is essential fatty acids.
While most essential fatty acids can be synthesized in the body, omegas 3 and 6 need to be supplemented through the diet. Flaxseed oil is an excellent source of omega 3, 6 and 9 and is the richest plant source of Omega 3.
Omega-3 fatty acids are the building blocks of cell membranes and proper functioning of the cell depends on the integrity of these membranes.
Omega 3 benefits nearly every body system and has been shown to help reduce heart disease, cholesterol, strokes, inflammatory diseases including skin conditions such as eczema, and offers support to the immune system, nervous system and joints.
Flax oil is high in lignans, gentle plant hormones which contribute to oestogen balance. It is also a good source of B vitamins, potassium, lecithin, magnesium, fiber, protein, and zinc.
